Seattle Frontrunners Report
“I am elated that we had such an excellent turnout and enjoyed good weather,” said Jeff Graham, the Race Director for the Walk/Run with Pride.  The 24th Annual Walk/Run with Pride sponsored by Seattle Frontrunners held on Pride Saturday was a huge success.  In spite of all the activities going on that day, participation was 33 percent higher than last year and featured the largest turn out in seventeen years.  The event is usually dominated by runners and men but, this year, there were many more women. Since this was the intent, the planning committee for the event was very happy.

Although the day started out with showers, by the time the runners and walkers were on their mark, the day was warm and cloudy.  The runners who lined up first and the walkers that followed had a great time.  “I am elated that we had such an excellent turnout and enjoyed good weather,” said Jeff Graham, the Race Director for the Walk/Run with Pride.

The premier event, the 10K, was won by local tri-athlete Jake Bartholomy in 36:06, making him the only 4-time winner in the 23-year history of this race.  Jake also won the Gay Games Marathon in Sydney in 2002 and was runner-up at Gay Games VII in 2006 in Chicago.  The runner up was Rocky Ursino, also an elite tri-athlete and Jake’s training partner.

The top female runner, Clare Parfitt, was timed in 46:05. The 4K run winners were Stephen Stuehling and Candy Owens.  Richard Newman and Laura Crampton won the 4K walk.  In addition to these overall winners, ribbons were given to the top three runners and walkers across a wide range of age categories from under twenty to over seventy.

This years beneficiaries are Lambert House, a center for LGBT youth and their allies, and Team Seattle, which fosters physical and emotional well being by promoting opportunities for the LGBT community and their friends to participate in sports at all levels of ability.  Past recipients included the Center for LGBT Health, Esoterics, the Gay and Lesbian Chorus, the Pride Foundation Scholarship Fund, Rise and Shine, Bailey Boushay House, the Rainbow City Band,
the Washington State Safe School Coalition and PFLAG.
